Make International Friends Outside of Work and School

Our ICE World Agent programme targets those non-locals in Hong Kong who would like learn more about Hong Kong and meet some international friends.

“The best way to learn about a city is to talk to the locals and integrate into their daily life.”

By volunteering with us, you will have the chance to visit local schools and join programmes held in all parts of Hong Kong; from Sheung Shui and Tuen Mun to mountains in North Point. Sharing personal stories and knowledge of your home culture will be most insightful to students.

Committed to breaking stereotypes and discrimination and enthusiastic about shaping a global society? Join us! You’ll be working with an international team from over 15 nationalities.

You will receive a confirmation email upon successful application. We will arrange a trial session for you as soon as possible.

What are the programmes like?

We organise events and workshops for different schools in Kowloon, New Territories or Hong Kong Island. Our customers range from local primary schools to corporate and NGOs, so our World Agents are able to participate in a diverse range of experiences. Topics may vary depending on the audience. In the past, topics have included Stereotypes and Social labelling, Myths and Legends, Human Trafficking, and Ethics and Justice.

What is my role as an ICE World Agent?

The standard format for a lesson (~40 minutes~) will be a cultural presentation followed by interactive activities. Culture Sharers are expected to do short presentations on the lesson’s topic, relating their presentation to their country of origin; and conduct casual conversations with lesson participants about their experiences. Each sharer usually takes part in 1-3 sessions each day depending on their availability and the suitability of the topic. At certain events, cultural sharers are also expected to decorate booths to showcase their countries.

Am I qualified to share?

We welcome anyone passionate about sharing their culture to others. Sharers will first attend 2 workshops as trial to assess their suitability. We will organise training sessions if sharers do not have enough experience. Experienced sharers will be invited to organise their own workshop if they are interested.

Will I get paid as an ICE World Agent?

Our World Agents are unpaid. However, a fixed subsidy to cover transportation (and sometimes food) will be provided for each attendance. It will be a good opportunity to enrich your CV profile. Outstanding World Agents will be given priority to apply for a 3-month internship.

What is an ICE World Agent?

ICE World Agents are people united by one passion: to share with others about their culture and promote global-mindedness. ICE invites our World Agents to engage in cultural sharing with others when there is a relevant ICE programme or event. There will also be monthly casual get-together and events to connect ICE World Agents with other internationals and locals.

What benefits do World Agents have?

Take part in fun cultural exchange and conversations with both international friends and local students, and engage in casual gatherings and activities every month, giving you a chance to make friends from all over the world. You will also have the opportunity to organise your own cultural events if you wish so.

What information will be sent if I want to report my volunteering hours ?

ICE will calculate the total hours you have volunteered and send information to your company based your company’s policy. If you would like to know what information will be sent, please contact us with the name of the company you work for. All information will be kept strictly confidential unless a World Agent has requested for ICE to report their volunteering hours back to their company.
